The Revolutionary War was a huge, important event that happened in history. It happened 1775-1783. This is when the 13 colonies fought for their independence against England. The first shots happened on a bright and early morning on April 19, 1775 in Lexington, Massachusetts. A colony is a community formed by settlers. About 7,200 Americans died during battle, about 10,000 died from disease, and about 8,500 died in British prisons. Why or how did the war start you may say. Well England controlled and ruled all the 13 colonies. Once the colonies were flourishing, England started taking advantage of them and started to not care about them. England was putting tax on everything and were forming many acts like the Stamp Act and the Tea Act. The colonies were getting mad and started rioting. England sent over many red coats to watch and "take care of" the colonists. Some events that led to the war were the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party, and "No Taxation without Representation." The War ended with the Battle of Yorktown where the major general of the British, Cornwallis, surrendered to the Americans. The Revolutionary War was a major turn point in history because that's how America became its own nation and gained independence.
